Nutritional Microscopy looks at blood under darkfield and brightfield microscopes. Blood drawn in a lab has essentially been "killed" by the preservatives, fixatives, anti-clotting agents, etc. that have been added to it. Standard blood tests are very useful for many things (like determining therapeutic blood levels, blood counts, etc.) but Nutritional Microscopy is like an "early warning system" for your health, as it shows the features associated with many degenerative conditions years before they show up as signs and symptoms.
