November Focus - Colloidal Silver
This is not the "complete story" on colloidal silver but it will give you the basics.
Colloidal silver is a suspension of tiny silver particles in water and has been in the medical world for many years as a topical antiseptic and internally as an antibiotic to treat many complaints and to boost immune health. Colloidal silver is currently designated as a supplement rather than a medication by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and it has been known to cause a rare but irreversible condition known as argyria, a condition that causes the skin to turn blue-gray.
Those who use colloidal silver as a daily mineral supplement generally take about one teaspoon of 5 ppm colloidal silver daily ( about 75 micrograms of silver ). Colloidal silver should be held in the mouth at least 30 seconds to three minutes prior to swallowing.
Upon initial usage of higher doses of colloidal silver, it is a good idea to pay attention to the body, especially the skin, for the first indication that a saturation dosage level has been reached. This is often indicated by slight rashes and slight skin irritations that clear up quickly. This is not a negative sign, it is simply an indication that the amount of colloidal silver used should now be slightly reduced.
What causes this phenomenon? When the kidneys/liver are introduced to substances in quantities that can not be processed as a normal part of the body's elimination system, the body redirects excess amounts to the skin for elimination. This is known as a toxic response, and occurs instantly with substances like garlic.
A bottle of true colloidal silver should not form foam when shaken and will not have a tremendously high ppm rating. PPM stands for Parts Per Million and is how the strength of colloidal silver is measured. If a colloidal silver has something like 20,000 ppm it is likely not a true colloidal product.
Good brands include Future Biotics, Silver Biotics, Utopia Silver, Kelly Colloidal Silver, Vital Super Colloidal Silver, and Health & Herbs Colloidal Silver, among others. You can also make your own colloidal silver.

Dosage:
Some people, when first ingesting Colloidal Silver, have the experience that is called the Herxheimer effect. This experience is a result of the silver very efficiently killing off too many pathogens too fast for the body to dispose of through the normal eliminative organs. This forces the body to utilize the secondary eliminative organs: the lungs, sinuses and skin, which can cause coughing, sneezing, and rashes.
Sometimes a new colloidal silver user who ingests colloidal silver for the first time will
experience what feels like a cold or the flu (or diarrhea). This can be stopped by cutting back on the dosage (or completely abstaining for a day or so), or prevented by starting with a small dose (1/4 to 1 teaspoon twice a day) and gradually increasing the dosage.
Colloidal silver can be used externally, taken internally, given by injection, dropped into the eye and nose, used vaginally…..many applications have been used for hundreds of years. It is even available as a soap. For use in the eye, only 5 ppm and 10 ppm strengths are recommended. 10 ppm and 100 ppm are the most commonly used, for everything from rashes and allergy relief to cold and flu.
